What makes an item desirable?
Sports memorabilia doesn't need to be expensive.
Small items bought online - often involving local or childhood teams or past events - can capture a moment and invoke huge nostalgia.
If you are considering starting your own collection, here are some tips to consider:
The Athlete (or Team) - Was the item worn or owned by a well-known or celebrated athlete?
The Event - Does the item relate to a specific event, time period or notable success?
Condition - Is the item in good condition?
Provenance - Is the item authentic and do you know how it was procured?
Scarcity - Is the item unique and would it be difficult to replace?
Nostalgia - Does the item invoke great memories of a notable time or era?
Do you love it? - If so, enjoy! That's what collecting is all about!

Terminology Guide
"Match" or "Game Worn" - Actually worn by the player in competition.
"Team Issued" - Issued to the player but not worn in competition. Possibly an unused substitute or one of several size or fit options available to the athlete.
"Player Issue" - Matching design and specification to match worn item but possibly not directly linked to the player or event.
